January 2013 Updates!!

Hello everyone! I feel that I have been ignoring my Day Zero project the past couple of months, due mainly to major life goings-on, including finishing my dietetic internship (yay!) and holiday celebrations (yay again!)

However, once again I have completed some tasks without even trying. While I am thrilled that these things are happening, I feel as though I should try and stay on top of my list better than I have. While I have completed 7% of my list, over 17% of the time has already gone by!!! So here is a quick update:

Numbers 28 and 44 are DONE!! I will not go into detail about number 28, let's just say it was very fun, and the Gap is my new favorite place to shop for those specific items. Number 44 was done without knowing I was finishing an item on my list. My amazing sister gave me Gilmore Girls seasons 1 & 2 for Christmas and we didn't have a GG all-day marathon so much as a GG all week marathon, which made us both very happy.

Items that I did not finish: Homemade Christmas had to be put on hold due to the amount of time I spent on my internship, so I caved and bought my family nice inexpensive gifts. However, I am getting back into the crafty swing of things. I have big plans to make a quilt for my boyfriend's new apartment (#19) and I am thinking of picking up art journaling (#39).

I have also been feeling inspired to keep another blog, one more specific to my interests (food, cooking, nutrition, books). While this blog is on my DZ list, it has made me want to write another one.

That's all for now! I promise more frequent updates in the future!

November Updates!

Okay, so it has officially been more than 100 days (107 to be exact) and I have not been thinking about my DZP as much as I should be. However, with about 10% of my time gone, I felt as though I should check in and see how I was doing. Lo and behold, I actually accomplished some things!

#5 - Visit my sister for her 30th birthday! I realize in my last post I was preparing for my trip, but the trip was over a month ago now, and I have finally checked it off. Jules and I had a great time in Baltimore celebrating her birthday with a fabulous party, some good food, funny friends, and of course, Gilmore Girls (because no Rulia weekend is complete without some GG on the DVR). We also caught up with my cousin Ashley for brunch the next morning, check out the pic!

(I can neither confirm nor deny whether we were allowed to actually touch those sculptures...)
When I asked my sister if she felt different now that she was a thirty-something, she said definitely yes!*rolls eyes*

# 82 - Eat all local foods for one weekend. Okay, so this one I did on accident! I actually attended the "Slow Food Conference" at the University of Maine (where I am a graduate student in nutrition) and the menu for the entire weekend (Friday dinner and cocktails, Saturday breakfast, snacks, lunch, coffee) was all local/Maine/organic foods. I feel that this should count, since I was introduced to some new Maine products I had never tried before, and I learned a lot about the Slow Food Movement. As an added bonus, Representative *Chellie Pingree (D-ME) was there. She represents Maine's 1st congressional district and is one of the very few active farmers in Congress.
*To read about Chellie's bill, H.R.3286 Local Farms, Food and Jobs Act, click here!
(I promise Chellie is there, she's just very tiny up there! I did see her up close later. And for the record, NOT my diet coke. Nothing against diet coke, but I wouldn't bring it to the slow food conference, that was a friend of my who shall remain nameless!)

#95 - Learn a new card game. The game I learned with my boyfriend William is called Five Crowns, and it is basically like a mix between Phase 10, Rummy, Scat, and Speed. It was really fun!

In Progress:
I am currently working on #14 (choreograph a dance), and #80 (visit Harry Potter World at Universal Studios in Orlando!) I am especially excited about #80, the condo is booked and we are currently debating flying down versus driving, since we will be there for a week driving wouldn't be TOO bad, but flying is so much quicker!
Just a reminder, I am still working on #'s 6 and 53 :)

I will try to post more over the holidays, as I will be working on some homemade Christmas presents as well as some great recipes! Goodbye for now!

Updates!!!!

Hello all you nonexistant people who read my blog! :)

Here is an update on my progress with the Day Zero Project. I have 3 items in progress, and two items checked off!!!!

Items in progress:
#5 - visit Julia in Baltimore for her 30th birthday. Yes, the tickets are booked and the party is planned! Next weekend I will be crossing the Mason-Dixon line and celebrating a milestone with my amazing Sister!
#6 - An entire Christmas of Homemade Gifts. I have started a few items for gifts for this Christmas and I am making a timeline for getting things done.
#53 - Save up for a vacation in a jar. I have the jar and I plan on decorating it for my dream vacation to Italy :)

Items checked off (squee!):
#91 - Work with my doctors to go off one medication. That's right, I am one medication down! This really means a lot to me, and I'm very happy.
#35 - Hike Old Speck Mountain. Yesterday I hiked the mountain, finally! It is the third highest peak in Maine and we finished in a whopping 5 hours and 30 minutes :) I went with my good friends Sean and Eliza. Pics below for proof!

This weekend I went to the bog walk for the first time! It was so beautiful, a mile long boardwalk through untouched peat bog.

#30 - Keep a blog of this list

The reason I am blogging about my Day Zero project is because it is one of my goals to keep a blog. I have never been able to keep one in the past and I want to see how it goes. To this blog I will post pictures and descriptions of all my adventures on this endeavor to finish my list! Any tips would be appreciated, and if anyone wants to join me for any of my challenges let me know!

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!

For those of you who don't know what the Day Zero Project is, visit www.dayzeroproject.com to find out. The basic premise is to make a list of 101 things that you want to accomplish in the next 1001 days. It is a good way to figure out all of the things you want to do and make yourself accountable. They can be either big things, like go to Europe or graduate college, or they can be small, like learn to make souffle! Here is the link to my Day Zero Project!
